Lovely Egyptians

Back in school, I remember one of my history teachers talking about the great inventions made by the Egyptians. Among them was... the wedding band. The practice of wearing the band on the fourth finger (known today as the ring finger) was because they believed that a vein from the fourth finger lead directly to the heart. By wearing rings on the fourth finger of their left hands, a married couple symbolically declares their eternal love for each other. How lovely :-).

The “vein of love” has now become a matter of tradition, and for that matter, I decided to make a little reserch about the different traditions around the world.

In some countries (Brazil, Canada, Chile, Croatia, France, India, Ireland, Italy, Japany, Korea, Mexico, Portugal, Finland, UK and the United States), the wedding ring is worn on the left hand.
In other countries however (Colombia, Germany, Greece, Norway, Peru, Poland, Russia, Spain and Venezuela), it is worn on the right hand.

In Western tradition, an engagement ring is a ring worn by a woman indicating her engagement to be married.
In some European countries, the wedding ring is the same as the engagement ring and changes its status through engraving and the change of the hand on which to wear it.
The bride wear it on her left ring finger and have the groom put the wedding band over it. She may also wear it on her right ring finger or continue wearing the rings on different hands after the wedding.

In Egypt, Brazil and many European countries, both the man and the woman usually wear engagement rings, most often in the form of matching plain bands of white, yellow, or rose gold. In these countries the man's engagement ring often also serves as the wedding ring. Some men wear two rings. The woman's wedding ring can sometimes have a precious stone.

In British tradition, the best man has a traditional duty of keeping track of a marrying couple's wedding ring(s) and to produce them at the symbolic moment of the giving and receiving of the ring(s) during the traditional marriage ceremony.

In more elaborate weddings, a ring bearer may assist in the ceremonial parading of the ring(s) into the ceremony, often on a special cushion or pillow.

Today I received an email from David’s Bridal with their new selection of cakes where "fashion meets frosting".

The top 20 cakes listed are actually a combination of wedding cake design that complements their current wedding dresses’ style and colors.

What a nice way to start the week with so many beautiful options to look around.

Nowadays, wedding cakes are far from traditional. They can taste and look like anything the groom and bride wish for. The texture, the colors, the shape and size, the decoration, the topper… it is all about reflecting the couple’s personality.

Bridal Show - I

Bosco Bridal Show

January and February are usually the busiest months for bridal shows. But attention brides-to-be: They are already here.

Yesterday I went to the Bosco Bridal Show in Stamford, CT. Fantastic!!

Bridal shows to me, are a wonderland of wedding planning. It is where you can find trusted professionals of every single area in just a single place: bakeries, bands, catering, florist, photographers, travel agents and so on… You might even find dentists (as they had yesterday from Wilton Dental Associates) and get a free consultation like I did …how cool is that?

You'll find many different vendors offering the same services or products. If you like more than one and you just don't know who to choose ... collect as much information you can from every vendor, take it home to digest when you have some quiet time and enjoy the show.

The bridal fashion is usually the most expected part. Yesterday it wasn’t any different. The show was held by Alena’s of Fairfield and was simply spectacular. Gorgeous!!!

The highlight of the show however was with no doubt the band Alive N Kickin'. When they said they were going to rock the ballroom... they meant it!! Awesome! Everybody was moving, even if it just happened to be the tip of their toes…nobody stayed still with their sound.
Alive N Kickin will be performin at The City Night Club in New Rochelle NY on Nov 21st. Don't miss the chance to check them out !!

These shows are so much fun not to mention the goodies you get to bring home. No matter who you call, your mother, the groom or your bridesmaids, just be prepared for the next bridal show in your area.
